Under the patronage the Public Security Director, Major General AbeidAllah Maaitah, Public Security Directorate / Anti-Narcotics Department celebrated (UN) International Day Against Drug Abuse, which came under the title "Sacrifices continue".

The celebration began with a workshop on the new preventive strategy for combating drugs, in which representatives of the Ministries of Youth, Education, Higher Education, and Social Development participated, as well as representatives of a number of official and popular state institutions contributes to spreading awareness among the groups of society against the scourge of drugs, in order to reach a conscious society free from drugs.

For his part, the Director of Public Security stressed that Jordan joins the world every year in celebrating this occasion, because of its importance in reminding society of the danger of drugs and their negative effects on society and the individual, and in strengthening efforts to protect society.

Major General Al-Maaitah indicated that, in implementation of the Royal directives, Public Security Directorate, through the Anti-Narcotics Department, has assumed, since its establishment 50 years ago, the responsibility to combat drugs by all means, through a comprehensive security and awareness strategy implemented by the Anti-Narcotics Department in accordance with the highest levels and standards.

The Director of Public Security praised the efforts and sacrifices made by the Anti-Narcotics Department around the clock, hand in hand with their colleagues in the Jordan Armed Forces - the Arab Army and the security agencies, to deal with all forms of dealing with drugs, locally and regionally, stressing the need to continue those efforts, and keep pace with the development in methods Smuggling and drug trafficking.

He called for the need to move forward in building a comprehensive national awareness strategy against drugs, as directed by His Majesty the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, King Abdullah II, during his last visit to the Department a few weeks ago, in which the various official and private state institutions participate, each within his scope of work.

In his speech, the Director of the Anti-Narcotics Department confirmed that the Department is fully aware of the magnitude of the escalation in the drug problem globally and regionally, which necessitated us to review, develop and update our security strategy to keep pace with the changes taking place in drug-related criminal patterns.

He added that the department and all its personnel  continue to give and make sacrifices to deal with narcotic criminal activities  .
