Ma'an Police Directorate

  • In 1916, when Sharif Hussein bin Ali arrived to Transjordan at that time, it was called the Gendarmerie, and it was administratively connected to the Karak Governorate from the Ottoman era until the establishment of the Emirate of Transjordan in 1921. It was developed  to a directorate under its current name, Ma’an Police Directorate.

     

  • In 1975, as a result of the increase in the economic, touristic and political importance of the city of Aqaba, the Aqaba region was developed  to a police directorate, and it was separated from the Ma'an Police Directorate

     

  • On June 12, 2006, a new Police Directorate was established in the Petra District and it was separated from the Ma'an Police Directorate.

     

  • On 10/18/2020, the directorate was relocated and the building  was occupied by Civil Defense Directorate, which is located on the desert road (Al-Jarthana area), immediately after the city of pilgrims.

    Administratively, AOR covers Ma'an Governorate, from the desert road to the city of Aqaba and to the road leading to the city of Petra, in addition to its location on the road leading to the border area with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Among the duties of Ma’an  Police Directorate are the implementation of all orders and instructions issued by the Regional Security Command, the provision of distinguished police services to service recipients, the development of police and security action plans that emanate executive plans for prevention and combating crime, the periodic evaluation of the police and security action plans and the necessary amendments Concerning it, strengthening the system of knowledge, communication, creativity and innovation in individual and institutional work, the optimal use of available human and material resources, guidance and supervision of all affiliated and attached public security units, strengthening partnership and cooperation with security agencies and official institutions, maintaining communication, cooperation and social responsibility roles with service recipients and the local community .
